On 22 February 2016, the JEUPISTE project organized the training seminar “Opportunities for EU-Japan Research Collaboration: Training for Japanese Research Administrators and Researchers from EU and Japan” in London.

The seminar consisted of two parts. The first part introduced Japanese funding schemes and examples of research collaboration between Japanese and European institutions. Representatives from JSPS London (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), JST Paris Office (Japan Science and Technology Agency) and the NEDO Representative Office in Europe (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) explained their funding systems to facilitate research cooperation and also presented past and ongoing research projects which involve collaboration with European organizations.

In the second part, the consortium members of JEUPISTE provided technical knowledge on the procedures of Horizon 2020. The speakers answered various questions related to the different internal regulations for each institution in Japan and Europe, ranging from the basic points of Horizon 2020 to more details such as the financial system. The majority of audience were Japanese researchers and project managers who work in European universities and companies. The seminar concluded with comments from the organizers, who said that they hoped the participants could act as a bridge to encourage more Japanese researchers to join the Horizon 2020 research projects.
